Nine Circles

Welcome to September, everyone. Let’s kick off the new month, and begin the transition to fall, on a high note. Later this month, the 21st specifically, Ataraxia will unveil their latest album, Pomegranate – The Chant Of The Elementals. The 28th(!!!) album from the Italian neoclassical darkwave veterans will be released through The Circle Music, and today Nine Circles is proud to bring you the video for the first new material from that album, titled “Nevenhir.” Give it a watch and listen directly below.

For a little background, Ataraxia was established back in 1990 as an Italian ensemble of artists focused on exploring and creating music, poetry and visual art, dedicated to the ‘act of creation.’ Having had a chance to listen to Pomegranate – The Chant Of The Elementals in full, I can say broadly that their focus is achieved. The soundscapes they craft are defined by a certain natural weightlessness, allowing them to meander effortlessly without restraint. In narrowing the scope to the sample above for now, needless to say in both sight and sound “Nevenhir” delivers one captivating passage after another.

Exploring the story behind “Nevenhir” a bit, Ataraxia commented: “This song shifts between spirit and matter enveloped by the liquid currents of Nevenhir, elemental Spirit of water. In the music video, this subtle Spirit is embodied by two twins, Neve and Nhir. They appear and disappear embroidering dreams. The new ATARAXIA album is a poetic race through the essence of the elements constantly inspired by the elemental Spirits of nature.”

The depiction of the relationship between the twins, Neve and Nhir, is simple in nature, yet the interactions are powerful. The video finds a way to extract emotions that are familiar, yet mysterious and jarring at the same time. Serene, but not quite entirely comfortable. The entire 6-minute experience is intriguing, and leaves behind a certain itch that is really only satisfied with further immersion into this track, and ultimately the album as a whole.
