The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 381 (03.29.2025)

playlist - mixtape

The 381st edition of the Nine Circles Playlist will admit one thing when the world’s on fire: time does indeed move fast. It’s already the end of the first quarter, and I put together a best of year list that already has 21 albums I can’t imagine will get pushed out by the time December comes. It’s possible you might see one of those represented on this list (it’s definite: Colin just added a track from the new Deafheaven), but I’m going intro this with two tracks from smaller bands that just released new albums I’m groovin’ on: the djent-y, progressive metal of Nospūn and the traditional power of Lady Beast.

The rest of the staff celebrates the end of the first quarter with music both old and new, n=bringing forth new tracks from Nechochwen, Quadvium (Steve DiGiogio on bass? You have my attention…), more from Spiritworld, new nu-metal from India in the form of the mighty Bloodywood, and then some classic cuts as far reaching as Soundgarden and Dead Brain Cells.

Get listening. Stay safe. See you next week.

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 343 (7.06.2024)

playlist - mixtape

I love when it’s a (relatively) light week new release-wise, and I get to focus on a few dear things. Like the new Liminal Shroud album which is fantastic, or the new Wraith album, equally fantastic. They’re kicking off the 343rd edition of the Nine Circles Playlist, along with some new singles from an I guess re-activated Dead Brain Cells? Color me happy as we head into the Independence Day weekend here in the states.

Elsewhere in the 9C universe the staff brings it with new tracks from Sarke and Deceased, killer USBM from Stress Angel, sweet death metal from Devenial Verdict, and more from the likes of Bathory, Pity Sex, new 40 Watt Sun, Molchat Doma, Iress, and Panopticon, along with a lot more.

Get listening. Stay safe. See you next week.

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 250 (9.24.2022)

Well whaddaya know? We made it to 250. This is the 250th edition of the Nine Circles Playlist and since it’s our party we’ll invite who want to, you know?

So you’re gonna hear stuff like the new Venom, Inc. which is killing anything Cronos might be doing (although thanks for releasing the In Nominee Satanas set on CD) and Gaerea who just released a killer new record, as did the noise kings KEN mode. But that’s not all! How about some vicious preview tracks from the likes of Autopsy and Scars of the Flesh? Or maybe you’re feeling like it’s an indie weekend? We got you some older tunes by Pianos Becomes the Teeth and Catherine Wheel to soundtrack your vibe. Lest you turn away there’s still plenty of heavy to be had with music from Ashen, Aenaon, Ultar, and a bevy of classic metal tracks to close things out from the likes of DBC, Sodom, Morbid Angel and Vader.

Get listening. Stay safe. See you next week.
