The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 410 (10.18.2025)

playlist - mixtape

The 410th edition of the Nine Circles Playlist remembers as a kid using two boomboxes to tape Terry Brennan’s copy of Destroyer, and being amazing watching KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park. Ace Frehley was always the best band member, and his solo output often was better than anything Paul, Gene, and the rest were doing (his version of “Hide Your Heart” slays the KISS version, fight me). Also, dude could cover a classic song like no one’s business, as you’ll hear below.

RIP, Spaceman/Space Ace, may you write that next installment of “Fractured” in the stars…

The rest of the 9C gang varies the list, some getting into the wicked spirits with tracks from King Diamond and Mercyful Fate, dark and midnight black with Fordæðuskapr and Hexecutor, and even a little Death Cab For Cutie. You can find a lot more as well from the likes of Arcadea, Coroner, Giöbia, and a monster of a new track from sunn O))) rising from the earth now they’re signed to Sub Pop.

Get listening. Stay safe. See you next week.

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 296 (8.13.2023)

playlist - mixtape

A day late and a dollar short for the 296th edition of the Nine Circles Playlist. It’s too hot, work sucks, and honestly I spent Friday and Saturday drinking, watching terrible movies and barbecuing with family. Priorities, folks.

So a Sunday list for you, obliviously curated to contain whatever tracks the gang picked – I barely looked because honestly I’m knee deep in the beautiful 50th Anniversary set of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars album and concert film. Looks like we have tracks from Celestial Annihilator, Body Void, Mantar, Krieg, Agima Sun, Urne, and other stuff.

Oh, and Cannibal Corpse. In fact let’s kick off with that.

Get listening. Stay safe. See you next week. Unless I forget.

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 288 (6.17.2023)

Miles below the surface of the earth there is a pocket. A great, hideous apparatus resides there, a series of decrepit gears made of the bones of ancient species long forgotten. These gears grind, turning and spinning in sloe agonizing arc which in turn shift the axis of this planet’s reality by materializing this, the 288th edition of the Nine Circles Playlist. Pray your mind and ears are ready.

We’ve got new music from Rivers of Nihil, Avkrvst and Persekutor kicking things off, and then the staff kicks in with tracks from Horrendous, The Wraith, Claret Ash, Varmia, Big Garden, Jag Panzer and even some Rancid as well as a lot more to fill out the playlist this week.

Get listening. Stay safe. See you next week…

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 243 (8.6.2022)

Thanks Fearless Editor Josh™ for covering the last two weeks of the playlist while I was away. I survived on a steady diet of alcohol and 80s thrash, and I *think* I got most of it out of my system by now.

Anyway, we’re gonna streamline this thing moving forward. You got tracks from the likes of Warforged, City of Caterpillar, Krisiun, and Amon Amarth, not to mention a whole lot of other stuff that may or may not be heavy. I mean, it’s the 243rd edition of the Nine Circles playlist, after all. What else did you expect? Well, since I’m back maybe you expected some classic rock or maybe some 80s thrash. We’ll see. There will definitely be some Boris, that’s for damn sure…maybe some Incantation, Night Eternal, you know – stuff like that.

Get listening. Stay safe. See you next week.
