Receiving the Evcharist: Necrotic Assimilation and Mantis Shrimp

Receiving the Evcharist 2018

It has recently been brought to my attention that we have all been derelict in our drinking duties, especially vis a vis album pairing.  Well, no more.  It might be a little early for resolutions, but I am doing my part to make sure that I drink more beer and listen to more metal (and then tell you about it) right now.  This week’s offerings: Necrotic Assimilation by Wrath of Logarius and More Brewing Company’s Mantis Shrimp.

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 312 (12.02.2023)

playlist - mixtape

We’re here, folks. The End Times. The End (of year) Times. And like a soaring eagle, daring us to fly so high is Bruce Dickinson, giving us the first single from his forthcoming solo album The Mandrake Project. Truly we live in wonder. Not only that, but the reigning king of emo black metal (fight me) Këkht Aräkh is back with a new single as well. All that and Cryptosis ripped my head off with a new EP this morning. December looks good, is what I’m sayin’…

Enough of my yuletide joys. The rest of the 9C crew is decking the halls with righteous metal, including more Panopticon from the newly released Rime of Memory (spoiler: it’s the AOTM for November), and tracks from Persefone, In Flames (ignore the haters, because Foregone is FIRE) Celeste, the righteous rock of the ’68, the newly remixed and remastered Sunbather from Deafheaven, a little dash of Decipher and Vomitory, as well as more surprises. Finally we bring it home with a classic track from The Pogues. Rest in Peace, Shane MacGowan. No one did it like you, and you were instrumental to broadening the horizons of a young punk in 1990 when he heard Rum Sodomy & the Lash for the first time (even though the track picked was from If I Should Fall From the Grace of God).

Get listening. Stay safe. See you next week.

CANTO: Wrath of Logarius, Pantera, Northwest Terror Fest, and More

Actually pretty big stuff happening for a Monday. Let’s dive in.

  • Northwest Terror Fest announced the lineup for 2024. Amenra, Immortal Bird, Ulthar, Giant Squid, and like 30-something more. There are some good names in that list. Early bird tickets went on sale today… and immediately sold out. Don’t worry, more are coming soon.
  • Pantera announced the second leg of their North American tour, and Lamb of God will be joining them. The dates are in February, kicking off in Sunrise. Those tickets go on sale this coming Friday here, with presale and VIP options coming a couple days sooner.
  • Wrath of Logarius dropped the second singe from Necrotic Assimilation, titled “Soul Ascension”. Their new EP is set for a December 8 release through Season of Mist.
  • And wrapping up, we have the latest video from Xandria. A track taken from The Wonders Still Awaiting, check out the clip for “Your Stories I’ll Remember” below. That album is available through Napalm Records.

CANTO: Job For A Cowboy, Wrath of Logarius, King Diamond, and More

Ok, I know I’m coming at you super late, but I was doing Halloween things and that takes priority.

  • Job For A Cowboy has been busy, so let’s start with their new video for “The Forever Rot”. In case you missed the news, they have a new album dropping on February 23 through Metal Blade titled Moon Healer. You can preorder it here.
  • How about some formless black metal? Wrath of Logarius are releasing a new EP through Season of Mist on December 8 titled Necrotic Assimilation. Check out the lyric video for the “The Burning One” right here.
  • Also out of Season of Mist, Strigoi are streaming their new EP for Halloween. Bathed In A Black Sun can be heard in full here, technically set for a November 3 release (this coming Friday).
  • Post-hardcore veterans He Is Legend released a new video for “Endless Hallway”, the title-track from their most recent album. That one is out through Spinefarm.
  • In the spirit of the season, let’s wrap up with the video from King Diamond for “Masquerade of Madness”, a track originally released back in 2019 ahead of that North American tour. Get some merch or a 12″ around the single here.
