The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 353 (9.14.2024)

playlist - mixtape

You guys hear this new Blitzkrieg? Damn. Brian Ross sounded great on the new Satan but he’s positively possessed on this new album. Beyond that I’m kinda surprised how much I’m digging the new Oceans of Slumber and – of course – the new collaboration between Mastodon and Lamb of God, not to mention the (I can’t believe I’m saying this) killer new Smashing Pumpkins album?! Verily, the 353rd edition of the Nine Circles Playlist is working out just for me, thank you.

Fret not, the rest of the 9C crew are bringing the thunder with tracks from Iotunn, Defeated Sanity, Marrow of Man, Vorga, more Midwife, some old Obscura and new music from .clipping. There’s a lot more, but I’m most excited for the last one, because FKA twigs is finally releasing a new album after almost six years and the first tracks is VERY much both in her style and in my wheelhouse…

Get listening. Stay safe. See you next week.

Nine Circles ov… The Month That Was: March 2024

Too many albums, too few reviewers…that’s the problem with all the metal blogs, not just this one. What do you do? How do you get a sense of what’s out there if you’re only listening to a fraction of what’s getting released? How do you open yourself up to new music? I’ll tell you how: you jump into all the unpicked promos each month and devote a sentence or two giving a sense of what you gleaned from it.

That’s right: we’re back for another round of “The Month That Was…” so enough preambling…let’s dive into this edition of Nine Circles ov… and see what’s been stewing in March 2024.

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 317 (1.6.2024)

playlist - mixtape

It’s 2024, ya gnarly droogs. I hope you all made it over to the other side. I just discovered through the grapevine a band called Hands of Goro that has an amazeballs cover, so we’re kicking off with their new single as well as something called Cancer Christ, which…well, it’s intense in a stupid fun way, so why not?

The 9C staff went all out to kick off the year with some killer music. We’ve got Vorga, Fathomless Ritual, some classic Immortal, something called Pinkshinyultrablast, the wonderfully named Warcrab, Old Gods of Asgard, some live Lovebites, new Vipassi and Blood Command…and it wouldn’t be a playlist without at least one Martinek squeezing in some Mountain Goats. Plus plenty of other surprises!

Get listening. Stay safe. See you next year.
