CANTO: Samael, Between The Buried And Me, Vltimas, and More

The deep freeze is finally upon us… just in time for the weekend!

  • Swiss industrial metal veterans Samael revealed a live version of “Moonskin”, along with a lyric video. That’s the second offering from Passage – Live, which is set to drop on February 16 through Napalm Records.
  • Between The Buried And Me have announced the “The Colors Experience Tour”, a run that will include performances of both Colors and Colors II in their entirety on consecutive nights in each stop across the U.S. Tickets go on sale this Friday.
  • Morne are joining Author & Punisher on a brief North American tour later this winter, with Glassing on the lineup as well. The dates begin February 23 and run through March 3, with tickets available now.
  • Doomcrusher have signed on with Arising Empire, and promptly released a new video for “Breakout”. I’m sure album news will come eventually, so we’ll stay tuned.
  • Vltimas unveiled the second single from Epic, their new album slated for a March 15 release through Season of Mist. Check out the visualizer for “Scorcher” immediately below.

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 252 (10.8.2022)

The weather’s turning colder, which means it’s time to wear a sweater…and jump into some extremity. Let’s not mince words and instead jump right into the 252nd edition of the Nine Circles Playlist.

We’re starting with new music from Ritual Dictates and Blind Illusion, and the the crew takes over with new Ingested, Ripped to Shreds and Mord’A’Stigmata. We also turn the volume down a bit with Touche Amore and Lantlôs before ramping it back up with Glassing and a whole bunch more.

Get listening. Stay safe. See you next week.

Best of 2019: Charles’s List

Best of 2019

Every year I come up with a list of albums, and every year I have trouble trying to firmly rank them. Also, doesn’t everyone just scroll to the end to see what the best album is? I know I do. So here’s my list where the first entries are the best, and it gets decidedly fuzzier after that. But one thing is certain, every album on this list is one of the best albums of the year. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

(ed: Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, or just happy Wednesday, whatever. Consider this a break from the family deal where there’s too many bags of torn gift wrap and cousin Eddie is playing banjo on your last nerve. Enjoy Charles’ picks and check all these out seeing as you’ve got all those gift cards and/or extra cash burning a hole in that pocket.)

Album Review: Glassing – “Spotted Horse”

Glassing - Spotted Horse

I can’t recall how I stumbled across the first single from Spotted Horse by Glassing, maybe a friend’s recommendation or a random Bandcamp find, but I do know that “Lobe” grabbed me instantly. Raw emotional anger is my catnip, one of the few things that laser focuses my attention, and that 1:47 packed a whole lot. Yet despite the in-your-face post-hardcore nature of the track, the album holds a secret: it’s actually a wonderfully complex post-rock album. Continue reading
